Product Information:
TASMI AM 10+40mg Tablets is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive containing:
- Amlodipine Besylate 10mg – a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that relaxes arterial smooth muscle
- Telmisartan 40mg – an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that inhibits the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS)
This combination is used to treat essential hypertension in adults who require more than one medication to achieve blood pressure control. The dual mechanism provides synergistic blood pressure reduction and may offer cardiovascular and renal protection.
⚠️ Note: Despite the brand name "TASMI" (which may suggest tamsulosin), this product does not contain tamsulosin. It is exclusively a combination of amlodipine + telmisartan for hypertension.
Uses of (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
- Treatment of moderate to severe essential hypertension
- Patients not adequately controlled on monotherapy with either amlodipine or telmisartan
- Hypertension in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria (telmisartan slows kidney disease progression)
- Cardiovascular risk reduction in high-risk patients (e.g., with left ventricular hypertrophy)
Key Benefits of (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
- Dual-pathway blood pressure control: vasodilation + RAAS blockade
- Once-daily dosing improves long-term adherence
- Telmisartan may reduce stroke risk and protect kidneys in diabetics
- Amlodipine counteracts telmisartan-induced vasoconstriction; telmisartan reduces amlodipine-related edema
How To Use (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
- Take one tablet once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day.
- Swallow whole with water—do not crush or chew.
- Continue therapy even if you feel well—hypertension is often asymptomatic.
- Full antihypertensive effect may take 2–4 weeks.
When Not to Use (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
Do not use if you have:
- Hypersensitivity to amlodipine, telmisartan, or any excipients
- Pregnancy (especially 2nd/3rd trimester—can cause fetal injury or death)
- Severe hepatic impairment or biliary obstructive disorders
- Concomitant use of aliskiren in patients with diabetes or moderate-to-severe renal impairment
Side Effects of (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
Common:
- Peripheral edema (ankle/leg swelling—due to amlodipine)
- Dizziness, headache
- Fatigue, flushing
- Back pain, diarrhea
Less common:
- Hyperkalemia (elevated potassium—due to telmisartan)
- Gingival hyperplasia (gum overgrowth—amlodipine-related)
Serious (rare):
- Symptomatic hypotension (especially in volume-depleted patients)
- Acute kidney injury (in susceptible individuals)
- Angioedema (swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat—seek emergency care)
- Discontinue and seek immediate help if breathing difficulty, severe dizziness, or facial swelling occurs.
Dosage: (TASMI AM 10+40MG TABLETS):
- Adults: One tablet (amlodipine 10mg + telmisartan 40mg) once daily
- Elderly or mild hepatic impairment: Generally safe; monitor blood pressure
- Severe hepatic impairment: Avoid
- Renal impairment: Safe, but avoid combining with aliskiren in diabetic patients

Warnings & Precautions:
- Avoid during pregnancy—use effective contraception
- Monitor serum potassium, creatinine, and blood pressure periodically
- Use caution in elderly or dehydrated patients (risk of hypotension)

Drug Interactions:
- Potassium supplements, spironolactone, trimethoprim: ↑ Risk of hyperkalemia
