Product Information:
SEM-P 2mg/1.5mL is a single-dose pre-filled syringe or ampoule containing Midazolam 2mg in 1.5mL solution, a short-acting benzodiazepine used for sedation, anxiolysis, amnesia, and seizure control. Midazolam acts on GABAₐ receptors in the central nervous system to produce rapid calming and hypnotic effects.
This formulation is commonly used in hospital, emergency, or procedural settings for conscious sedation, pre-anesthetic medication, or acute seizure management.
⚠️ Important Note:
Midazolam is a controlled substance with potential for respiratory depression, especially when combined with opioids or other CNS depressants. Use only under trained medical supervision with resuscitation equipment available.
Uses of (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
- Procedural sedation (e.g., endoscopy, cardioversion, wound repair)
- Pre-anesthetic medication to reduce anxiety and induce amnesia
- Acute management of seizures, including status epilepticus (often as second-line after benzodiazepines like lorazepam)
- Sedation in ICU (less common with this concentration; usually diluted)
Key Benefits of (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
- Rapid onset: IV: 1–3 minutes; IM: 5–15 minutes
- Short duration of action (1–2 hours)
- Water-soluble at low pH—less painful on injection than diazepam
- Amnestic effect reduces patient recall of unpleasant procedures
How To Use (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
- Administered by a healthcare professional via intravenous (IV), intramuscular (IM), or buccal route (off-label for seizures).
- Dosage varies by indication and age:
- Adults (sedation): 1–2.5mg IV slowly, titrated to effect
- Pediatric sedation: 0.05–0.1 mg/kg IV (max 6mg)
- Seizure (buccal/IM): 0.3 mg/kg (common off-label use in children)
- Inject slowly IV (over 2+ minutes) to avoid respiratory depression.
- Monitor respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and level of consciousness continuously.
When Not to Use (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
Do not use if the patient has:
- Hypersensitivity to midazolam or benzodiazepines
- Acute narrow-angle glaucoma
- Severe respiratory insufficiency or sleep apnea
- Shock or coma
- Concurrent use of strong CYP3A4 inhibitors in high-risk patients
🆘 Contraindicated in neonates given via IV due to risk of "gasping syndrome" from benzyl alcohol preservative.
Side Effects of (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, hiccups, local injection site reaction.
Serious (require monitoring):
- Respiratory depression or arrest (especially with opioids)
- Hypotension
- Paradoxical reactions: Agitation, aggression, involuntary movements (more common in children/elderly)
- Prolonged sedation in elderly or hepatic impairment
- Discontinue and provide supportive care (e.g., flumazenil, ventilation) if severe CNS/respiratory depression occurs.
Dosage: (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
- Concentration: ~1.33 mg/mL
- Adults: Initial IV dose 1–2mg; repeat in 2–5 min if needed
- Elderly or debilitated: Start with 0.5–1mg IV
- Children: Dosing by weight—typically 0.05–0.3 mg/kg depending on route and indication
- Max single IV dose: Usually ≤5mg in adults
Who It’s For (SEM-P 2MG/1.5ML):
- Adults and children requiring procedural sedation or acute seizure control
- Pre-operative patients needing anxiolysis
- Emergency settings under trained personnel
Warnings & Precautions:
- Always have resuscitation equipment and flumazenil (benzodiazepine antagonist) available
- Avoid alcohol or CNS depressants before/after administration
- Use lower doses in elderly, COPD, or liver disease
- Risk of dependence with repeated use—limit to acute settings
Drug Interactions:
- Opioids, alcohol, barbiturates: ↑↑ Risk of respiratory depression
- CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, erythromycin): ↑ Midazolam levels → prolonged sedation
- Rifampin, carbamazepine: ↓ Midazolam levels
- Always inform your doctor about all medications.
Additional Information:
Store below 25°C, protected from light. Do not freeze. Single-use only—discard after administration. Keep out of reach of children. Available by prescription only in Pakistan for hospital/emergency use.
