GETRYL 3mg Tablets contain Glimepiride 3mg as the active ingredient. Glimepiride is a second-generation sulfonylurea used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and enhances peripheral insulin sensitivity, effectively lowering both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.

This mid-to-high strength formulation is typically used when lower doses (1mg or 2mg) fail to achieve target glycemic control, offering a balanced step-up option before reaching the maximum dose.

How To Use (GETRYL 3MG TABLETS):

When Not to Use (GETRYL 3MG TABLETS):

Do not use if you have:

1. Type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
2. Severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min) or hepatic failure
3. Hypersensitivity to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas
4. Pregnancy or breastfeeding (insulin is preferred)

Side Effects of (GETRYL 3MG TABLETS):

Common: Hypoglycemia (sweating, tremor, dizziness, hunger), weight gain, headache, nausea.

Rare: Elevated liver enzymes, skin rash, photosensitivity.

Serious (rare):

1. Severe hypoglycemia (confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness)
2. Hemolytic anemia (in G6PD-deficient patients)
3. Cholestatic jaundice or hepatitis
4. Discontinue and seek immediate medical help if severe symptoms occur.

Dosage: (GETRYL 3MG TABLETS):

1. Typical dose: 3mg once daily
2. May be increased to 4–6mg/day if needed (maximum 6mg)
3. Elderly or renally impaired: Use with caution; avoid starting at this dose

Who It’s For (GETRYL 3MG TABLETS):

Adults with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved glycemic targets on 1–2mg glimepiride and require stronger oral therapy. Not recommended as initial therapy in elderly or frail patients.

Warnings & Precautions:

1. Hypoglycemia risk is higher than with lower doses—ensure regular meals and carbohydrate intake
2. Avoid alcohol—may cause disulfiram-like reaction (flushing, nausea) and increase hypoglycemia risk
3. Monitor kidney and liver function periodically

Drug Interactions:

1. Alcohol: ↑ Risk of hypoglycemia and disulfiram-like reaction

3. NSAIDs, sulfonamides, warfarin, fluconazole: May enhance glimepiride effect → hypoglycemia
